UC out-of-state tuition for students entering in 2026-27 ranges from $55,700 at UCLA to $57,484 at UC Berkeley, including fees. The spread is small because every University of California campus charges the same systemwide tuition ($14,202) and the same nonresident supplemental tuition ($39,270) -- only campus fees differ. And because UC sets these charges by entering class, the rate you start with stays flat for up to six years.

All figures come from the University of California Office of the President's 2026-27 total charges by campus, except Berkeley, which comes from Berkeley's own 2026-27 fee schedule. They exclude student health insurance, which can be waived with comparable coverage.

UC Berkeley$18,214$57,484$4,012
UC Davis$18,077$57,347$3,875
UC San Diego$18,052$57,322$3,850
UC Santa Barbara$17,695$56,965$3,493

UC Riverside$16,790$56,060$2,588
UCLA$16,430$55,700$2,228

Berkeley's figure, from its own fee schedule, includes a $141-a-semester course-enhancement fee that UC's systemwide totals leave out of the other campuses' numbers; on UC's systemwide basis, Berkeley is $17,932 in-state and $57,202 out-of-state.

What makes up UC out-of-state tuition

For a student starting in 2026-27, UC's charges have three systemwide parts plus campus fees:

  • Tuition: $14,202 a year, the same at every campus and for every student.
  • Student Services Fee: $1,386 a year, also systemwide.
  • Nonresident supplemental tuition: $39,270 a year, charged only to students who aren't California residents.
  • Campus-based fees: about $840 to $2,600 a year depending on the campus, covering things like student centers, recreation and transit.

That nonresident supplement alone is more than the full in-state cost at any UC campus, which is why Berkeley has the fourth-largest out-of-state premium of any state flagship -- see the biggest in-state vs. out-of-state tuition gaps.

UC tuition is locked for up to six years

UC's tuition, Student Services Fee and nonresident supplemental tuition are set for each entering class and don't rise while you're enrolled, for up to six years. Each new class pays more: for out-of-state students, the 2026-27 entering class pays $2,322 more a year than the 2025-26 class at every campus. Campus fees and health insurance aren't locked. UC out-of-state tuition vs. other flagships

At $57,484, Berkeley is the third most expensive flagship for out-of-state students, behind Michigan ($67,096) and Virginia ($62,054). The median flagship charges out-of-state students $38,800 -- see out-of-state tuition at every public flagship.

UC campuses aren't part of the Western Undergraduate Exchange except UC Merced, which appears on WICHE's list of participating schools. California residents should look at Cal Grant eligibility instead, which can cover UC's systemwide tuition.
