About College Intel

College Intel is a free tool for figuring out where you actually stand in college admissions — no account, no upsell, no fake-precise percentage.

Where the data comes from

Every number on this site — admit rates, SAT/ACT ranges, cost, graduation rates, earnings by major — comes from the U.S. Department of Education's College Scorecard, the federal government's own published dataset built from what colleges report to it. We don't estimate, extrapolate, or fill in gaps with a guess: if a school doesn't report a field, this site says so instead of showing a number that looks real but isn't.

That's also why the calculator doesn't factor in GPA. There's no public dataset of real per-school GPA admissions data, so a tool that claims to weigh your GPA into your odds is making that part up. Instead you get a Reach / Target / Likely read based on how your score compares to a school's actual admitted-student range and admit rate — a wider, more honest signal than a single confident-looking percentage.

How current is this data

School data (admit rates, SAT/ACT ranges, cost, and everything else pulled from College Scorecard) refreshes automatically every January and July, matching how often the federal government itself updates the underlying dataset — schools don't report new admissions figures more often than that. Deadline dates (ED/EA/RD) are hand-researched and verified against each school's own official page, one school at a time, rather than pulled from an automated feed.

Who builds this

College Intel is being built together with three cousins while they're actually in the middle of the college admissions process — running into the same problems from every direction, in real time: conflicting advice scattered across forums and blogs, stats repeated so often they sounded true whether or not they held up, no honest “chance me” tool that didn't just want an account or hand back a confident-looking guess, and the financial side — sticker price versus what a school would actually cost — nearly impossible to pin down clearly. They wanted one place to actually find real answers instead of piecing it together across a dozen half-trustworthy sites, so that's what got built, as they were going through it rather than after the fact.

It's built by Fuselyn, a small family of tools for each stage of getting through college — finding out where you stand, applying, and staying on track once you're enrolled.
