The average SAT score in Texas was 975 for the class of 2024, across 270,551 public school graduates who took the test, per the Texas Education Agency's (TEA) 2024-25 Texas Academic Performance Reports. Testing is close to universal in much of the state: 79% of graduates took the SAT or ACT. LASA (the Liberal Arts and Science Academy) in Austin ISD posted the highest average of any high school with at least 100 SAT takers, at 1407.
TEA reports each graduate's best section scores across every SAT they took, so these averages run higher than single-sitting averages would. "% tested" is the share of graduates who took the SAT or ACT; the SAT average covers only SAT takers.

Most of the rest are large suburban high schools that test nearly all their graduates; Frisco ISD alone has five schools on the list. Statewide, 186 of 904 high schools with at least 100 graduates reported that every graduate took the SAT or ACT.

A caution on comparing districts: where far fewer graduates take the SAT than graduate -- Richardson ISD (695 SAT takers from 2,582 graduates), Humble ISD, Conroe ISD -- many students took the ACT instead, or didn't test, and the SAT average reflects a smaller group. Houston and Dallas ISDs have the state's top magnet schools inside some of its lowest district averages.

What this means for you
- Compare a school's average with its testing rate. A school where 100% of graduates take the SAT is reporting on everyone; one where 60% do is not.
- Texas's top public averages come from specialized district campuses like LASA, TAG, and Carnegie Vanguard -- compare a neighborhood school against other neighborhood schools.
- For Texas juniors aiming at National Merit, the bar sits far above these averages -- see Texas's National Merit cutoff.
- For college admissions, your class rank matters as much as your score -- see how Texas automatic admission works, and the companion pieces on AP/IB results by school and where each school's graduates enroll.
