Texas A&M Engineering at Blinn vs. the Engineering Academy is a choice between two co-enrollment programs that get you into Texas A&M engineering without a regular College Station General Engineering seat. In both, you're a Texas A&M College of Engineering student from day one: you take engineering courses from Texas A&M while taking math, science, and core courses at a partner community college, then you enter a major through Entry to a Major (ETAM) like everyone else.
For the full set of routes, see how to get into Texas A&M engineering.
Blinn TEAM is not the engineering path
Start by clearing up the most common mix-up. Blinn TEAM is Texas A&M's general co-enrollment program with Blinn College. Texas A&M Engineering at Blinn is a separate, engineering-only program. Blinn's own TEAM FAQ says engineering and computer science aren't good options for TEAM and recommends Engineering at Blinn or the Engineering Academy at Blinn-Brenham instead.

Texas A&M Engineering at Blinn
There's no separate application. Texas A&M's Office of Admissions picks Engineering at Blinn students from the freshman applicant pool, so you apply to Texas A&M and indicate an interest in engineering. Texas A&M says it's offered to "a limited number of students."
You're co-enrolled at Texas A&M and Blinn College for two years. Math and science go through Blinn at Texas A&M-RELLIS; engineering courses are on the Texas A&M campus. You can live in a Texas A&M dorm and join organizations at both schools. Engineering at Blinn students can also be considered for Aggie Assurance, Texas A&M's free-tuition program.
Texas A&M Engineering Academies
The Academies run at ten partner community colleges across Texas: Alamo Colleges District, Austin Community College, Blinn College-Brenham, Collin College, Dallas College, Houston City College, Midland College, South Texas College, Tarrant County College, and Tyler Junior College.
Applying takes three steps:
- Get admitted to the partner college (through ApplyTexas for first-time students).
- Get prequalified by submitting the partner college's prequalification form.
- Submit the Academy admissions application using the link you're sent, with all documents by June 1.
SAT and ACT scores aren't required, and the application fee is waived. If you were previously enrolled at Texas A&M, you're not eligible. Even if you already applied to Texas A&M as a freshman, you still need the separate Academy application.
ETAM rules for co-enrollment students
Both programs use the same co-enrollment ETAM rules, which are stricter than General Engineering's (Class of 2030):
| Requirement | Co-enrollment (Blinn, Academies) | General Engineering, College Station |
|---|---|---|
| Partner-college cumulative GPA | 2.5 | -- |
| Partner-college term GPA | 2.0 | -- |
| Texas A&M cumulative and term GPA | 2.0 | 2.0 |
| Automatic entry | 3.75 at both schools, or National Merit SF/F | 3.75, or National Merit SF/F |
| Majors to rank | 3 (up to 5) | 3 (up to 5) |
Your two math and two science courses are taken at the partner college from an approved list (which varies by partner), and the two engineering courses -- ENGR 102 and ENGR/PHYS 216 -- at Texas A&M. If you're placed in a major before finishing the program, you must still complete MATH 2413, 2414, and 2415 at the partner college before moving full time into the major. Full ETAM details are in Texas A&M ETAM explained.
