Colleges Near Houston

Houston's college options are thinner and more public-heavy than a metro this size might suggest. Outside of Rice University's 8% admit rate, the landscape is mostly the University of Houston system's three campuses (main, Downtown, Clear Lake) and two HBCUs, Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M. If staying local is the plan, the honest picture is a short list rather than a deep bench -- worth knowing before building a college list around it.
