Close to the national midpoint
The full national range runs from a five-way tie at 208 to a tie at 223 for the highest -- a 15-point spread. Florida's 216 sits eight points above the floor and seven points below the ceiling, which puts it close to the true middle of that range. It's neither the low-cutoff outlier nor part of the high-cutoff cluster that includes the Northeast corridor and D.C.
The part that surprises people: a large neighbor doesn't mean a similar cutoff
Florida is one of the largest states by population, similar in scale to Georgia just across its northern border -- but Georgia's confirmed cutoff is 217, one point higher.
