Illinois public university application deadlines for fall 2027 cluster in the first days of November. UIUC's Early Action and Illinois State's priority deadline are both November 1, and UIC's Early Action and scholarship priority date is November 2. After that, the dates spread out: SIU Carbondale prefers applications by December 1, and NIU and SIU Edwardsville accept them into August 2027.
Each date below is from the university's own admissions page, checked October 25, 2026. We list the six largest public universities by enrollment.

Notes by school
- UIUC: Early Action is non-binding; decisions come January 29 (Early Action) and February 26 (Regular). See UIUC admissions for Illinois residents.
- UIC: November 2 is also the priority date for the Honors College (final deadline Feb. 1, 2027) and Business Scholars, and the FAFSA date for the Chancellor's Fellows-AIM HIGH scholarship. UIC says the scholarship priority date is a recommendation; later applicants may still be considered.
- Illinois State: ISU says the priority window gives the best consideration for scholarships and for majors with limited enrollment. Its page notes that fall dates are "subject to change without notice."
- NIU: Freshmen with a GPA below 3.0 should apply by the July 15 review deadline because their applications get a holistic review.
- SIU Edwardsville: SIUE sets its deadline two weeks before the term starts.
Guaranteed admission skips the deadline scramble
Ten Illinois public universities, including NIU, SIU Carbondale, SIUE and Illinois State, admit seniors through One Click College Admit based on GPA alone, with no application or fee. UIUC and UIC aren't part of the guarantee. See One Click College Admit's GPA thresholds.
What this means for you
- This week matters: UIUC and Illinois State close on Nov. 1, UIC on Nov. 2.
- Apply early even where the deadline is in summer. Scholarship priority dates (NIU's Feb. 1, SIU's Feb. 1) come months before the application deadline.
- File the FAFSA now, too. The state MAP Grant and the free-tuition programs at these universities depend on it. See Illinois financial aid.
