Washington's guaranteed-admission program covers six real public universities -- but the one campus most students actually picture when they hear "University of Washington" isn't one of them.

How it works
A student qualifies for WAGAP by earning and maintaining a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher and completing all 17 credits across the six required College Academic Distribution Requirement (CADR) subject areas. Participating high schools review a student's GPA and coursework directly and share that information with WAGAP-participating universities -- there's no separate application to be flagged as eligible.
The part that surprises people: UW Seattle isn't in the program
WAGAP's six participating universities are University of Washington-Tacoma, Washington State University (Pullman, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver campuses), Western Washington University, Central Washington University, Eastern Washington University, and The Evergreen State College. University of Washington's Seattle campus -- the state's most selective and most applied-to public university, and a separate campus from Tacoma in its own right -- is not part of the guarantee. A 3.0-GPA student with completed CADRs is guaranteed a spot at UW's Tacoma campus, but nothing about that guarantee extends to UW Seattle itself.
The second catch: it only works if your school opted in
WAGAP isn't available to every Washington student who hits the GPA bar -- it only applies if a student's specific high school or district has partnered with the program. As of the 2025-26 academic year, that's 132 public school districts plus 17 additional individual schools (including some charter, tribal, and private schools) -- a large and actively growing list, but not every high school in the state. A 3.0-GPA student at a non-partnered school doesn't get the WAGAP guarantee at all, regardless of academic record.
What this means for you
- Confirm your specific high school participates before counting on WAGAP. The program has expanded quickly, but coverage still isn't universal across Washington.
- If UW Seattle is your goal, WAGAP doesn't change your odds there. The guarantee only reaches UW's Tacoma campus, not the flagship.
- Complete all 17 required CADR credits, not just the GPA. Both conditions have to be met -- a 3.0 GPA alone isn't sufficient without the specific coursework requirements.
- Washington State University's guarantee covers all three of its campuses (Pullman, Tri-Cities, Vancouver), not just its main Pullman location.
