Kansas State's 2027-28 scholarship chart pays Kansas residents $1,000 to $5,000 a year based on GPA and ACT or SAT score. Non-residents get a GPA-only tuition discount that K-State estimates at $9,551 to $19,101 a year, and Missouri residents can cut tuition to the in-state rate with a 3.25 GPA and a 22 ACT.
Kansas State University runs three separate programs: a resident grid, a GPA-only non-resident award, and a Missouri-only match. It's a different design from in-state rival Kansas, which uses GPA alone for everyone. For the basics, see what an automatic scholarship chart is.

Kansas State scholarship chart for out-of-state students
The Wildcat Nonresident Award is open to students from every state and abroad. It uses GPA only and doesn't consider ACT or SAT scores.
| Best GPA | Discount on Non-Resident Tuition | K-State's Estimated Award |
|---|---|---|
| 3.90+ | 100% (in-state tuition) | $19,101 a year |
| 3.75-3.89 | 80% | $15,281 a year |
| 3.50-3.74 | 60% | $11,461 a year |
| 3.25-3.49 | 50% | $9,551 a year |
The dollar figures are K-State's own estimates for the 2027 entry term, based on 30 credit hours.
The Missouri Match: in-state tuition for Missouri students
Missouri residents have a second option. With a 3.25+ GPA and at least a 22 ACT or 1100 SAT, the Missouri Match Tuition Award removes the whole non-resident portion of tuition, an estimated $19,101 a year ($76,404 over four years) for 2027-28. A Missouri student with a 3.4 GPA would get $9,551 a year from the Wildcat Nonresident Award, but $19,101 from the Missouri Match with a qualifying score.
The part that surprises people: a top GPA beats a top score for Kansas residents
On the resident grid, GPA carries more weight than the test. A 3.95 GPA with no test score earns $3,000 a year, the same as a 3.50-3.69 GPA with a 29+ ACT. And a 3.95 GPA needs only a 27 ACT to reach the top $5,000 award, while a 3.70-3.84 GPA can't reach it at any score.
Deadlines and renewal
- April 1: deadline to send a seventh-semester transcript and ACT/SAT scores for a scholarship upgrade.
- February 1: K-State Scholarship Network application for competitive awards.
- One award only: you can hold just one general university scholarship or award.
- Renewal: a 3.0 K-State GPA, full-time enrollment, and 24 credit hours a year, for up to four years.
What this means for you
- Kansas residents: protect your GPA. It moves you across the grid faster than the test does.
- Out-of-state students: the test doesn't matter for the Wildcat award. A 3.90 GPA gets you in-state tuition.
- Missouri residents: take the ACT or SAT. A 22 ACT can double your award through the Missouri Match.
