NC College Connect directly admits North Carolina public high school seniors to colleges where they already meet the requirements. Students who start senior year with a weighted GPA of at least 2.8 and are enrolled in a fourth-level math class are admitted to participating UNC System universities and private colleges, with no essays, test scores or recommendations. Every senior on track to graduate is admitted to their local community college. For fall 2027, more than 67,500 seniors got four-year direct-admission offers.
The program details are from the UNC System Office and the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC), which runs the NC College Connect portal.

The higher your GPA, the more schools appear on your list. Each student's list is personalized. Participating institutions for fall 2027 include 11 UNC System universities, all 58 community colleges and 29 private colleges and universities in North Carolina, per the UNC System.
The program covers public high school seniors. Offers went out Sept. 15, 2026, in the student portal and by mail. Per the UNC System, 64% of high school seniors were notified of four-year institutions where they're admitted for 2027-28, and more than 105,000 received at least one direct-admission offer, including community colleges.
How to claim your spot
- Log into the NC College Connect portal with your CFNC account. Make sure your CFNC name matches your school's student record (NC-SIS) exactly.
- Review your matched colleges.
- Complete the short form for each school you're interested in.
- Watch for next steps from each college.
Claiming a spot isn't binding, and you can claim spots at several colleges. During College Application Week, Oct. 19-25, 2026, most participating colleges waive application fees.
Don't wait on scholarships and honors. CFNC notes that colleges still have earlier deadlines for financial aid, scholarships, honors programs, specific majors and housing, even after you're admitted. See UNC System deadlines for fall 2027.
Your list doesn't limit you. You can still apply to any college through its normal application, including universities not on your list.
The UNC System's minimum requirements
NC College Connect offers are built on the UNC System's systemwide minimums. For students entering fall 2026 and later:
- GPA: a weighted high school GPA of at least 2.5, based on all courses.
- Test scores: required only for students with a weighted GPA from 2.5 up to 2.79, who need an SAT of 930 or an ACT of 17. At 2.8 and above, scores are optional at the System level.
- Courses: four units of English; four of math (including one beyond Algebra II, or equivalent); three of science (a life science, a physical science and a lab course); two of social studies including U.S. history; and two additional academic courses.
Individual universities and programs can set higher bars. Meeting the minimum makes you eligible for consideration, not guaranteed admission, except through a direct-admission offer.
What this means for you
- Seniors: check your portal this week. College Application Week (Oct. 19-25) is when most participating colleges waive fees.
- Claim several spots. It isn't binding, and it secures a fallback while you apply elsewhere.
- Juniors: the 2.8 and the fourth-level math are what count. Both are measured at the start of senior year.
- Pair admission with aid. File the FAFSA for the Next NC Scholarship, and consider NC Promise universities, where in-state tuition is $500 a semester. See North Carolina college financial aid.
