The part that surprises people: a transfer student needs a far higher GPA for far less money
A freshman clears UAF's entire chart -- the full $4,000/year -- with a 3.5 high school GPA. A transfer student needs a 3.8 college GPA just to reach $3,000/year, a full tier below the freshman maximum. And a transfer student sitting at 3.79 -- one hundredth of a point under that line -- gets only $1,000/year, less than a freshman with a bare-minimum 3.0 GPA earns on the freshman scale. The two charts aren't scaled versions of each other; a transfer student's path to real scholarship money is meaningfully steeper.
What this means for you
- If you're transferring to UAF, don't assume the freshman chart's GPA bands apply to you. A 3.8+ college GPA is the real threshold for the more competitive $3,000 tier.
- No test score is involved at any tier, for freshmen or transfers. This is a GPA-only formula throughout.
- Hit the admissions deadline, not a separate scholarship deadline. There's no extra scholarship application -- June 15 for fall, November 1 for spring, tied directly to when your admissions file and transcripts are due.
- This chart takes effect for Fall 2027 entry -- confirm you're looking at the current-cycle numbers before assuming they match an earlier year's Nanook Pledge figures.
