Louisiana Tech's merit scholarship chart pays $1,000 to $9,500 a year based on your unweighted GPA and ACT or SAT score. Out-of-state students can also get the Bulldog Out-of-State Scholarship, which covers all out-of-state fees, automatically if they're from Arkansas, Mississippi or Texas.

Louisiana Tech University combines two things most chart schools keep separate: a merit award for everyone, and a waiver that removes out-of-state fees entirely. For the basics, see what an automatic scholarship chart is.

The Bulldog Out-of-State Scholarship

Out-of-state students can receive this on top of the merit award above. It covers all out-of-state fees:

  • Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas: admitted freshmen get it automatically.
  • Every other state: a 23 ACT (or 1130 SAT) and a 2.5 unweighted GPA, without needing remedial English or math.
  • To keep it: full-time enrollment (8+ credit hours per quarter) and at least a 2.00 GPA.

The part that surprises people: the score matters far more than the GPA

The two GPA columns are only $500 apart at every level. The ACT does almost all the work: moving from a 23 to a 33 ACT raises the award by $7,000 a year, while moving from a 3.0 to a 3.75 GPA adds $500. The one exception is the bottom tier, where a 20-22 ACT pays $1,000 only with a 3.75+ GPA.

For a student from a neighboring state, the two awards work together. A Mississippi student with a 3.2 GPA and a 25 ACT gets $3,000 a year from the chart, and the Bulldog Scholarship separately removes all out-of-state fees.

Deadline and renewal

  • January 15 of senior year: the priority admission deadline. No separate scholarship application is needed.
  • Renewal: merit awards run for four years (or 12 quarters if you attend summers).

What this means for you

  • Focus on the ACT. Each band up the chart is worth $1,000 to $2,000 a year.
  • Students from Arkansas, Mississippi or Texas: you start with out-of-state fees covered. Add the merit award on top.
  • Apply by January 15.
  • Compare it with Southern Miss and Mississippi State, or check all charts at once with the scholarship finder.
