UGA and Georgia Tech admissions both favor Georgia residents, by a wide margin. For the fall 2026 class, Georgia Tech admitted 28% of Georgia applicants and 9% of everyone else. In UGA's Early Action round, about 45% of Georgia applicants were admitted, versus about 22% of out-of-state and international applicants. Georgia residents also qualify for the HOPE and Zell Miller scholarships at both.
The figures below are from each university's own publications: Georgia Tech's 2026 admitted profiles and decision announcements, and UGA's admissions blog posts for its fall 2026 Early Action decisions.
Georgia Tech, fall 2026
| Applications | Admitted | Admit rate | |
|---|---|---|---|
| All first-year applicants | 67,985 | 8,715 | 13% |
| Georgia residents | -- | -- | 28% |
| Non-residents | -- | -- | 9% |
| Early Action 1 (Georgia students only) | ~8,700 | 2,640 | 30% |
| Early Action 2 (non-Georgia students) | 37,300 | 3,149 | 8% |

Georgia Tech aimed to enroll about 4,100 first-year students across summer and fall. It considers every applicant for both terms, and your start term appears on your admission letter. In Early Action 2, 25% of applicants were deferred to Regular Decision.

UGA, fall 2026 Early Action
| Applications | Offers | Admit rate (approx.) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| All Early Action | 34,280+ | 10,760+ | ~31% |
| Georgia residents | 13,530+ | 6,100 | ~45% |
| Out-of-state and international | 20,730+ | 4,600+ | ~22% |
Source: UGA Admissions blog, "2026 EA In-State Decisions" (Nov. 21, 2025) and "2026 EA Totals and Out-of-State/International Decisions" (Dec. 12, 2025). UGA reports counts with a "+"; admit rates are our calculation from those counts.
Admitted-student ranges (middle 50%), UGA Early Action:
| Georgia admits | All EA admits | |
|---|---|---|
| UGA-recalculated GPA | 4.19-4.45 | 4.18-4.43 |
| SAT | 1370-1500 | 1400-1510 |
| ACT | 31-35 | 32-35 |
| AP, IB and dual enrollment courses | 10-16 | 10-15 |
UGA's GPA is its own recalculation from core courses, not your transcript GPA. UGA says the SAT and ACT ranges are "somewhat higher for out-of-state accepts," and that admitted in-state Early Action students earned 94% A's in their core courses.
Why the residency gap? UGA says it uses the same review for everyone, but aims to enroll a class that's roughly 80% Georgia residents. In-state students accept their offers at much higher rates, and the out-of-state applicant pool is larger, so out-of-state admission is harder. UGA also says it doesn't consider major, legacy status or demonstrated interest, and has no limit on admits from any one school, county or state.
Fall 2027 deadlines
| UGA | Georgia Tech | |
|---|---|---|
| Early Action | Oct. 15, 2026 (materials Oct. 29) | EA1 (Georgia students): Oct. 15, 2026 (documents Oct. 30) |
| Second early round | -- | EA2 (non-Georgia students): Nov. 2, 2026 (documents Nov. 16) |
| Regular Decision | Jan. 1, 2027 (materials Jan. 15) | Jan. 6, 2027 (documents Jan. 22) |
| Early decisions | In-state mid-to-late November; out-of-state mid-December | EA1 early December; EA2 late January |
| Final decisions | Mid-March | Mid-March |
| Deposit deadline | May 1 | May 1 |
As of October 20, 2026, UGA's Early Action and Georgia Tech's EA1 deadlines have passed. Georgia Tech's EA2 (November 2) and both Regular Decision deadlines are still open.
Other dates to know:
- UGA's Foundation Fellowship application is due November 1; its Morehead Honors College application is due January 15.
- Georgia Tech's merit scholarships, including the Stamps President's Scholars Program, require applying in an Early Action round. There's no separate scholarship application.
- Both are non-binding: you have until May 1 to decide.
What this means for you
- If you're a Georgia resident, plan for the October 15 early rounds next cycle. Both schools give Georgia students their first decisions in November or December, and Georgia Tech considers only Early Action applicants for its merit scholarships.
- If you're from out of state, treat both as reaches. Georgia Tech admitted 9% of non-residents, and UGA's out-of-state EA rate was about half its in-state rate.
- Non-Georgia students: Georgia Tech's EA2 deadline is November 2. Applying early is also the only way to be considered for its merit scholarships.
- Georgia residents: line up HOPE or Zell Miller. At UGA, HOPE pays $5,017 a semester for 15 hours and Zell Miller $5,067 in 2026-27; see HOPE amounts by college. Georgia's class of 2027 National Merit Semifinalist cutoff is 217.
