The part that surprises people: "up to" means UNH isn't telling you the actual number
Every dollar figure on UNH's own chart is prefaced with "up to." That's a meaningfully different promise than Alabama's or Kentucky's charts, where landing in a row produces a specific, calculable dollar amount every time. At UNH, a student in the Trustee's tier could receive anywhere up to $20,000 -- UNH's published materials don't specify what determines where within that range a given student lands, or whether the maximum is typical or exceptional. This puts UNH closer to schools that publish named tiers without disclosing the exact formula than to the fully transparent charts elsewhere in this cluster.
What this means for you
- Don't treat the published figure as your guaranteed award. Budget around the low end of what "up to" could mean, not the ceiling, until you have an actual award letter in hand.
- This is GPA-only -- weighted GPA specifically, with no test-score component at all. A strong ACT or SAT score doesn't move you between tiers here.
- Renewal requires a 3.2 cumulative UNH GPA by the end of your fourth semester, maintained afterward -- a real but separate bar from the entry GPA that got you the award.
- There's no fixed scholarship deadline -- awards are determined as part of standard admission review, though the separate Hamel Scholarship program suggests November 15 for preferred consideration on related aid.
