The University of Minnesota Twin Cities was founded in 1851 near Saint Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River and is Minnesota's only land-grant university, serving as the flagship campus of the University of Minnesota system. It is one of five U.S. universities with an engineering, medical, law, veterinary medicine, and agricultural school all on one campus, and its faculty are credited with inventions including the cardiac pacemaker and the retractable seat belt.
