Gambier, OH
Kenyon College was founded in 1824 by Philander Chase, Ohio's first Episcopal bishop, with financial backing from British patrons including Lord Kenyon, for whom the college is named. Chase originally established the school in Worthington, Ohio, before relocating it to its present site in Gambier after reportedly declaring of the land, "This will do." Kenyon was incorporated by the Ohio legislature on December 29, 1824.
