Louisiana State University originated as the Louisiana State Seminary in Pineville; after a fire in 1869, the institution relocated to Baton Rouge and became LSU. It is one of a small number of U.S. universities holding combined land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant designations. LSU comprises 14 colleges and schools, including the Paul M. Hebert Law Center and the E. J. Ourso College of Business.
